what God reveals.

"Viewing those eight years from this far side, I marvel at the wisdom and love of our God, Who controls the curtains of the stage on which the drama of our lives is played; His hand draws aside the curtains of events only far enough for us to view one sequence at a time. Had those eight years been revealed to me in one panoramic view that misty gray January morning in 1938, would I have had the courage to board the ship? I wonder. Through the intervening years, tempestuous winds of gale force have buffeted me. Waves of tidal proportions have threatened to carry me under or dash me upon the rocks. But knowing now what I did not know those many years ago, with C. H. Spurgeon, I can thank my God for every storm that has wrecked me upon the Rock, Christ Jesus!"

  1. Knowing what she endured and reading that last sentence humbles me. Hear my cry oh God ,attend unto my prayer. From the ends of the earth will i cry unto thee when my heart is overwhelmed, Please lead me to the rock that is Higher than I. For thou has been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy. Ps.61 How i need His word, how i need Him!!! Such a sweet reminder dear lady, thank you. Blessed Lord's Day. ~tammy

  2. I read her book some years back and I think it is one of those that you carry away with you forever. I made sure my daughters read it too. It is such a testimony to God's love and help for his people, and His ability to bring around some of the most evil individuals to His will. I think I'll read it again. Right now it would be a good thing for Christians to realize God doesn't alway solve their problems, but instead uses those problems to bring them closer to Him. Thanks for the reminder.

  3. I just finished this book for the second time (in a 20 + year span)! In fact, our book club is discussing it tomorrow night. I too, have ear tagged, underlined, and shed tears upon the pages of this book. It truly is a worthy read and one that should be read and reread. I love seeing the character of God and His ways or guidance, tender provision, and grace in any and all situations. It is a faith building, inspirational, and in my opinion, life changing book. Ahhhh, I just love it so much and will be passing it along to my daughter who plans on reading it over the holiday break this winter.
PS: I too have underlined this quote <3

  5. I'm so glad my mom, Debbie (but you know that!), encouraged me to read this book long ago. I can't wait to read it to my own children when they're old enough to understand it. What a faith-building book. Wow!
